Skin Effect: The Science of Skin and How to Prep Your Beauty Routine for Winter - TIP - Do it Like the French

November 3, 2014

As I'm gearing up for a whirlwind of travel this month and next, among my top priorities is keeping up a healthy skincare routine. Plane rides and harsh winter air can do terrible things to your skin, but what is even worse is the harsh water that comes from pipes and filters. Since I prefer the best water for my insides, I also prefer it for washing my face and body.

I've learned from a few French friends of mine that the best way to wash your face is not with tap water, but with Micellar Cleansing Water. (Pink bottle shown above). Just dap some on a piece of cotton and rub on face and neck to cleanse.

My favorite brand right now is NUXE Paris because it is very affordable and effective, so I've stocked up with the essentials travel kit for my upcoming winter trips. NOTE: Because this is not a local brand, I'd recommend purchasing on Amazon to save on shipping costs.

From top left to right most is found in this NUXE travel kit:

  • Huile Prodigieuse multi-purpose dry oil softens skin, body and is great for giving hair a little shine.
  • Micellar Cleansing Water enriched with rose petals (I love just the hint of rose in anything)
  • Nuxellence Jeuness anti-aging care with radiance effects
  • Nuxe Body Fondant Shower Gel
  • Beauty Habit's L'Aromarine Vanille Eau de Toilette (not included in kit find here) I rub a little of this on my wrists for just a hint of yummy vanilla scent that won't overpower neighbors on a plane ride like some perfumes can do
  • Creme Fraiche De Beaute is an excellent 24 hour moisturizer for long travel days
  • Beauty Habit's Bonny Doon Farm Rose Water Spritzer (not included in kit, find here) is great for a facial refresher with that fresh hint of rose

These products will leave your skin feeling radiant and dewy fresh all winter long. These are all my own opinions, and only you know how your skin reacts, but I've only used for a few weeks now and already see an improvement.

Be good to your skin! It does more for you than you can ever imagine. Skin is made up of around 70% water, less than 25% protein, and just over than 5% fat.* The water in skin helps act as a conductor for new wearables I'm dreaming up, and beyond that, skin is an amazing and complex organ that extends deeper than the human eye can even see.

Hope you like the products, let me know your own review after you've tried.

Happy Travels!
